Teachers’ User Guide & Overview of the Current State-of-Play (14 August 2015)

Here is the Teachers’ User Guide for the online Year 4 RE Assessment 2015.

Here’s a quick overview of where we are at.

If you would like to quickly take a look at what the site looks like before you get your admin log and password, check this out

An important wee technical matter is that the following URLs will need to be whitelisted at both the CEO and school level. Could you please pass these on to the IT staff at the schools? The URLs are:

http://rla.trafficmanager.net

http://admin.religiousliteracy.com

http://rlamelbourne2015a.azurewebsites.net

http://rlasydney2015a.azurewebsites.net

http://rlasingapore2015a.azurewebsites.net

http://rlahongkong2015a.azurewebsites.net

You might well ask, what is whitelisting? … I asked this question! …

Schools and organisations usually restrict the types of URLs that their routers/modems can go to, for safety reasons. Unusual websites are blocked and students cannot access material they shouldn’t.

Whitelisting is the process of unrestricting a range of websites that need to be allowed.

Ensuring a url is on the allowable lists means that the sites can be accessed at the school.

An example is youtube. If students are not allowed to access YouTube, then it can be blacklisted. In order for YouTube to be accessed, the URL first needs to be whitelisted.

Because we have a range of datacentres, some overseas, the ‘hongkong’ or ‘singapore’ may flag in some school routers. This produces an error message if a student tries to access it. This is why the whitelisting is quite important for the IT expert/personnel to action before the practice assessment.

Hopefully that explains it.
